We love children at Silver Valley Assembly of God! We believe they are NOT the church of the future, they are the church of today. We also believe that every person who attends our church should have the gospel taught to them in a way they understand. Because of those beliefs we strive to provide a loving and safe environment for kids and good, solid teaching of the Bible presented at their level of understanding.
At 9:30 on Sunday mornings we have a Sunday School class for kids in preschool to 5th grade. Sunday School begins with breakfast served to the kids. Breakfast is normally eggs, sausage, pancakes, and fruit but may at times include other items. The children watch a Christian video after eating breakfast that teaches Bible stories or biblical truths.
During the 10:45 Main Service on Sunday mornings we offer Children's Church for kids in Kindergarten to 5th grade, a class for Preschoolers ages 3 to 5, and childcare for babies and toddlers age 2 and under. Power Hour Children's Church is a great time for kids with fun games and activities, Bible stories with life application, a kid friendly song service where kids are taught and encouraged to begin learning to worship, and more. Preschool is designed for the younger children, so each activity is sandwiched in between free time periods. Preschoolers will hear a Bible story, make a craft, play games and do activities that reinforce the Bible story, and join the older children for the song service. Both Children's Church and Preschool have a snack time during the service and snacks are also provided for toddlers in the nursery.
At the 7:00 PM Midweek service we have a class for kids in Kindergarten to 5th grade. Kids will be taught a lesson in character development based on Biblical teachings. We follow the lesson with an activity that reinforces the lesson like a craft, a game, or a video. The kids’ service ends at 8:00 PM so children who walk home are not out too late. Children who are being picked up by adults or older siblings attending youth group or adult Bible study can remain in the kids’ church area until the service is over and people are able to pick them up.
During the year we try to have special activities for kids like Movie Days or Vacation Bible School. To learn more about upcoming events for kids please click the Events button.
Safety is very important to us. Because of this we have policies in place that all adults and teens serving in the Children’s area have attended training classes and are screened prior to being cleared to work with kids. Adults and teens have background checks done prior to being installed as teachers. We also have a policy that no Children’s Ministry worker is ever allowed to be alone with a child, and we try to make sure that each class has a minimum of two people in the room at all times. Our nursery and preschool are stocked with age appropriate toys and furniture, and we make sure that snacks are also age appropriate to guard against choking. We also try to accommodate children with food allergies or special dietary needs with special snacks and meals.
We will do our best to work with parents/guardians of children with special needs to provide the best care possible. However, many Children's Ministry workers are not trained to care for children with special needs and may feel unable to handle them. If there isn’t a worker scheduled for the service who feels able to handle a special needs child we may ask the person who brought them to church to allow the child to stay with them during service. We also at times may allow a parent, guardian, or care giver to attend Children's Church with a special needs child if that is in the best interest of the child. However, because of our safety policies we prefer to allow that only if necessary. If your child has special needs we would love to learn more about your child and what our church can do to provide the care they need.
