Free Meal

Wednesdays at 6:00 PM

On Wednesdays at 6:00 PM we have free meal. Free meal is open to everyone, anyone is welcome to come and eat dinner. Although we do have a service directly after the meal it is not required or expected that people who attend free meal will stay for the service at 7:00 PM. The meals served are usually things like spaghetti and salad, hot dogs and french fries, sloppy joes and tator-tots, tacos, and other "kid friendly" fare. We try to always have vegetarian and dairy free options, and can work with other food allergies or diet restrictions if we are informed about them prior to the meal. We usually serve food until about 6:45, since the same room we use for free meal is also used for Children's Church at 7:00 PM and so we need time to clean up and get things ready for the service.

Free meal was started as a result of our church wanting to help our community. Many people in the Silver Valley struggle financially, for some families it's difficult just to put food on the table. While our church wasn't able to provide much we felt we needed to do something, even if it was providing just one meal a week, and that's when we decided to begin serving a free meal for the community. When we started in May 2011 we had about 15 to 20 people attending every week. We grew until at one point we served an average of 60 people. Our highest number of people to be served at free meal was 72. We love getting to know the people in our community who come to eat dinner with us and are glad to do what we can to help our community, even if it's a small thing like one meal.

Please contact us if you would like to assist us with this ministry. If you are looking to donate we can always use non-perishable food like boxed macaroni and cheese (a big hit with kids and teens), canned fruit, spaghetti noodles, canned spaghetti sauce, mustard, ketchup, ranch dressing, Kool Aid packets, and sugar. Other food items can also be donated, we can usually find a way to use whatever we are given. We can also always use items like paper plates, 8 oz foam cups, plastic forks and spoons, napkins, and paper towels. Of course, money can be donated and is always appreciated, and we make sure that money designated for free meal is only used for that purpose. Anyone who is interested in helping to cook or serve at free meal can contact us for more information. Any kind of assistance is appreciated as we work to serve the people of the Silver Valley.
